After School Discovery Program Daycare

The After School Discovery Program is designed to be a service for parents/guardians who are unable to pick their children up immediately following the close of school each day. This program is structured to provide children with a place that is safe and nurturing while children wait for their parents.

The Director is employed by SLA and Browning to care for students after school should the need arise.
Children in the After School Discovery Program are encouraged to choose between various activities that provide for recreation, individual creativity, and diversity. Activity options include: outdoor games (weather appropriate), craft, art or building projects, and table games. For older students time is made available for homework. Any parents wanting their children to have a snack during daycare may send one with their child. Children with snacks may eat them at 3:45 p.m. each day. As with school lunches, we encourage this to be a healthy snack.

Eligibility
Browning Elementary students in Pre-School through age 13 are eligible to participate in the After School Discovery Program.

Hours
For your convenience the After School Discovery Program is open during the following hours:

Monday – Thursday 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m.

Friday 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m.

The program is not open on state legal holidays, school vacations, or snow days. The program will be open as necessary (due to break-even demand) on Teacher In-Service and Parent/Teacher Conference days. Watch the Friday Note for any of these special offering dates.

**Child care after 6:00 p.m. (or closing time) will be billed at $10 per quarter hour per child.

Financial Information
This program is an excellent service that we are happy to provide our elementary parents. As a school we must ensure that the program does not financially detract from the regular educational program. Please note the following very important financial details:

All parents/guardians are expected to pay prior to services being provided. Incentive rates are available for families that pre-schedule and pre-pay for these services. Please click here for current rates.

An annual registration fee is required for all preschool and kindergarten students. For appropriate planning, payment and schedules are required by Friday the week before service is requested. Pre-scheduling allows us to plan more effectively and to be more efficient in our staffing.

Refund policy
Refunds for pre-scheduled hours will be provided for snow days (school closure) and illness only. In case of illness a message must be left on the daycare voice mail extension 112 the morning of the illness.
All payments are processed through the business office. You may make payments by using cash, checks, debit cards, VISA, MasterCard or American Express credit cards. Any debit card or credit card transactions must be processed through the SLA Office during school hours. There is a bank charge for insufficient funds checks that are returned to SLA and Browning. This charge will be passed on to the family.

Emergency Care
Students in the elementary school building must be supervised at all times. A reasonable15-minute time frame is provided for families to pick up children following dismissal. To efficiently supervise any remaining students, these students are moved to the After School Discovery Program room. Students are signed in and retained until they are picked up by an authorized individual. Please note that any child that is moved to the daycare room following dismissal incurs a supervision fee. The fee for these services is at a higher “non-schedule” rate. There is a minimum charge of one hour for this use of the program.
